Fearsome forward pack set up win at Wasps, says Bath Rugby head coach Mike Ford

Head coach Mike Ford heaped praise on Bath Rugby's pack as they picked up a first win at Wasps for five years with a 28-5 success in the Aviva Premiership yesterday. Fijian winger Semesa Rokoduguni scored a try either side of half-time at Adams Park and flanker Matt Garvey also touched down at the death. Ford said the win was built on the work done by Bath's dominant forward pack, who have become one of the most fearsome in the country under the guidance of coaches Toby Booth and Neal Hatley. "We played well away from home. It was a very clinical, professional performance," said Ford. "The work that Neal Hatley and Toby Booth have done with the forwards has been sensational this year. You saw today their dominance at scrum and lineout time. "There are not many teams this year that have got the better of us in the tight forwards play. "The amount of detail and the way they train the boys, and the way the boys play for each other is a credit to them. They've done a fantastic job." The win lifted Bath back up to third in the Premiership table and Ford said the only disappointing aspect was missing out on a fourth-try bonus point. Ford acknowledged, however, that the result could have been different had Wasps fly-half Andy Goode not missed three penalties in the opening 50 minutes. "Andy Goode missing those kicks helped us. To go in 11-0 at half-time was very pleasing," said Ford. "I actually thought we lost the breakdown in the first half. We couldn't get anything going. We went two or three phases and then it was either a scrum to them or they disrupted the ruck. "We talked about that at half-time and we thought the main thing was to come out after and take the sting out of the game again. "We saw that 20-minute period out and it was important that they didn't score. "We are pretty disappointed we didn't get four tries in the end. "Ideally you want a bonus-point win but you never ever talk about that in training, it's only when you get in the position to do that. "Wasps at home have done very, very well. We didn't think about the bonus point until we got the third try."
