Golden Oldies charity launches twinning scheme

Singing sessions across Bath are being twinned in order to reach more people.

The Golden-Oldies charity holds popular sessions for pensioners, giving them the chance to get out and meet others while singing songs from their childhood.

In August sessions across B&NES were reduced from weekly to monthly to help the charity's money go further.

But to ensure people do not lose out too much, the charity is looking to twin sessions, so that people from one Goldies group can attend another as well as their own.

The arrangement has started with the Combe Down and Blagdon Park Goldies sessions.

Founder Grenville Jones said: "We had a lot of disappointed Goldies following the decision we had to make to cut back from weekly to monthly sessions in B&NES.

"Quite simply we did not have the money to sustain the weekly sessions but we can sustain monthly sessions.

"One way we are trying to keep our Goldies active is by twinning sessions that are close to each other.

"For example the Blagdon Goldies can attend their non-Goldies week by being taken by community transport to Combe Down Goldies, and vice versa.

"We are really trying our best to fill the gap with those empty weeks."

There will also be a Goldies Christmas party, which will take place on Friday December 20, from 1pm until 3pm at the Pavilion.

Mr Jones said: "I do realise how our decision to cut back on our weekly sessions affected so many people.

"I personally want to say sorry to our Goldies across Bath and North East Somerset and hope that by organising a Christmas party for them they will be able to have a special fun time together."

He thanked the Pavilion, Bath firm Wessex Water and the charity St John's Hospital for supporting the Christmas party.
