A 67-year-old man is in a serious condition after coming off his bike in Corsham this morning.
At around 7.30am the man was found lying unconscious in the road in Dickens Avenue.
Paramedics treated him at the scene, and he was taken to Frenchay Hospital by ambulance with serious head injuries.
His injuries are described as life threatening, and police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
The man had been cycling along Dickens Avenue towards Charles Street after finishing a paper round and was still carrying the empty orange bag which contained the newspapers.
No other vehicles are believed to be involved.
Officers from Wiltshire Police Serious Collision Investigation Team are investigating the incident, and would like to hear from anyone who saw the man cycling in the Dickens Avenue area.
The road was closed for three hours while enquiries took place.
