How Ensleigh MoD site will be revamped is revealed

Plans have at last been revealed of how Bath's third MoD site will look once Government workers have left the city.

Up to 250 houses could be built on the 21-acre Ensleigh site at Lansdown in a joint scheme by Bloor Homes, Linden Homes and Bath architects Nash Partnership, which have been appointed by landowner IM Properties.

The site will be developed in three phases, as civil servants move out, and more than 160 of the homes are expected to be built in the next five years.

The housing estate will be made up of 35 per cent affordable homes and a mix of apartments and large family homes.

Ensleigh will be the last of the three sites – there are others at Warminster Road and Foxhill – to be vacated by the MoD, which is now leasing land from IM Properties until it has moved staff to Bristol.

A statement on behalf of Bloor and Linden said: "This represents an ideal opportunity to transform an inactive brownfield site by providing much-needed new homes. However, we are aware of the sensitivities of building new homes in a prominent location close to the city of Bath."

The new housing scheme is in addition to 40 homes planned on a smaller 4.1-acre plot at Ensleigh.

The Bloor and Linden plans for Ensleigh will go on show at two public exhibitions at the Premier Lounge, at the Recreation Ground on Friday, October 4 between 4pm and 7pm, and Saturday, October 5, between 10am and 1pm at the Hare and Hounds. Full details of the scheme are also available at www.ensleighhomes. com.
