The Bath branch of the Historical Association has announced its programme for the 2013-14 season, with subjects ranging from the Second World War to Byzantium.

The programme begins on September 26 with a lecture by Dr Boyd Schlenther, formerly of Aberystwyth University and recently made chairman of the branch, on Methodism and the 18th century crisis of faith and society.

In October, Dr Mara Kalnins, of the University of Cambridge, will speak on the ancient amber routes between the Baltic and the Black Sea.

In the new year writer Sean McGlynn will lecture on King John and the battle of Bouvines; Professor Ronald Hutton of the University of Bristol will speak on Charles II; Professor Mark Ormrod, from the University of York, will talk about immigration into England between 1330 and 1550, and Christopher Massy-Beresford will bring the season to an end with a lecture on neutrals in Second World War Europe.

There will also be a talk about No 1 Royal Crescent and the project to open six new rooms before Christmas.

The branch meets monthly at the Friends Meeting House in York Street. Details can be obtained from Mike Short at mikeshort20@btinternet.com or on 01225 812945.
