Swimmers from Bath jumped in at the deep end to raise money for a cancer charity.

More than 23,500 people took part in Swimathons at 615 pools across the UK to support Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Swimmers from Bath raised £5,411, which will help Marie Curie support people with terminal cancer and other illnesses at the end of their life.

Marie Curie community fundraiser Lucy Stockall congratulated everyone involved.

She said: "We are delighted that so many people in Bath took part this year and thrilled with how much money has been raised for Marie Curie Nurses who provide free nursing care to terminally ill people in their own homes.

"We are so thankful to everyone who took on a challenge and raised these valuable funds."

In total £2.4 million has been raised from Swimathons across the country, making it the most successful year to date.

People were able to swim various distances, ranging from 5k, 2.5k, and 1.5k.

Olympic gold medalist and Swimathon president Duncan Goodhew said: "During Swimathon weekend, swimmers of all levels took to the water to take on their own personal challenge in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care.

"I am happy to say, we are heading towards a record breaking year in terms of fundraising, which is a true testament to all the hard work of our swimmers and their supporters."
