Historic buildings and heritage treasure troves will be opened to the public later this month.
A wide range of events and activities will take place in the museums, galleries and heritage sites of Bath and north east Somerset, with at least 20 sites opening their doors to the public from Thursday, September 12, to Sunday, September 15, to celebrate Heritage Open Days 2013. Visitors can see inside a complete Georgian house with restored garden and how it is being used now at No 4 The Circus in Bath, you can investigate the equipment used in the spas of the past at the St John's local history store at Upper Bristol Road, and check out archaeological finds at a store at Pixash Lane, in Keynsham.
Many of the sites – including some run by B&NES Council – are not normally open to the public.
No 4 The Circus is open on Friday, September 13, from 10am to 12pm and 1pm to 3pm, while the St John's Store is open on Saturday, September 14, from 11am to 3pm.
The store features historical spa equipment, a Victorian spa treatment visitor's book and a sedan chair. There will also be a trail for children and a display of postcards as well as furniture by local craftsmen.
At the Pixash Lane Archaeology Store, between 10am and 2pm on Thursday, September 12, people can explore archaeological finds from Combe Down Stone Mines and Keynsham including Roman mosaics and abbey stonework.
The initiative also offers the chance to look behind the scenes at a non-heritage site, the May Gurney recycling depot at Ashmead Lane, Keynsham on Saturday, September 14, from 10am to 2pm.
Guided tours have to be booked in advance with Council Connect on 01225 394041.
