Children got an insight into horse-racing at an event at Bath Racecourse.

Accompanied youngsters got in for free at a fun day at the Lansdown venue.

The aim of the interactive Kids Love the Races roadshow was to entertain and engage children in the sport.

Budding young jockeys could enjoy finding out more about the equine and human stars of the sport, design their own racing silks and take a look at some specialist racing equipment. They were able to check out what racehorses eat to keep them in tip-top condition and learn about what happens at the track.

Racecourse general manager Katie Stephens said: "For children, visiting our racecourse means fresh air, space to run around, fun and unique atmosphere – it's a perfect occasion for a family day out."

Rod Street, chief executive of marketing body Great British Racing, said: "Racing provides fantastic entertainment and sporting action for all the family and is one of the few leisure activities where kids go free."
