Just catching up on the discussion on Parking. I thought I would recount my experiences.
I moved from London to Frome in 1978.
I used to pop into Bath regularly, and always parked away from the centre, with just a comfortable walk away. Also if I found I needed something urgently, I could whip in and out of Bath in the hour.
Gradually the greed and stupidity of the city planners, including the likes of Elgar Jenkins, started whittling away these off centre spaces. So all the businesses I visited lost.
When my daughter was born, I used to park at the Weston end of the park, a buggy walk away, again to spend in the city. As she got older, used the playpark and local businesses.
I like theatre, so by the time an evening performance was due to start parking was free, not any more as parking charges end AFTER evening shows start, so fewer theatre visits.
So multiply me by many times, and all my spending in Bath has been smashed by the "experts" in local government.
All the trade problems of Bath can be laid 100 per cent at the feet of the Bath city planners, as my 35 year experiences show!
