Motorists driving through Widcombe will receive a reminder about sticking to the speed limit.

Councillors Ian Gilchrist and Ben Stevens (Lib Dem, Widcombe) organised for a solar-powered speed flasher to be installed at the bottom of Ralph Allen Drive.

It has been paid for out of their ward councillor initiative funds and will flash a reminder to drivers who are exceeding the 30mph speed limit.

Mr Gilchrist said: "We have been running speed watch patrols at this location for several years, and a consistent picture has built up of downhill drivers exceeding the speed limit.

"We have also noticed that one of the most effective speed reduction tools that exists is a speed flasher to remind drivers what the limit is."

Mr Stevens added: "I am delighted to use part of my funds for this purpose.

"Improving road safety in Widcombe was one of our promises to the electorate, and this is one of the means to achieving it."
