A management accountant from Bath is in training for a gruelling 125-mile kayak challenge to raise money for charity.
Steve Hewson, who works at the City of Bath College, will be paddling from Devizes, in Wiltshire, to Westminster, in London, with his old school friend Martyn Bangham.
The pair, who are both 32, are hoping to raise more than £1,000 for Arthritis Research UK as Martyn has suffered from rheumatoid arthritis from a young age.
Mr Hewson said: "We wanted to do something a little different and we somehow came up with the idea of kayaking.
"I've never really done much kayaking before, but now I'm doing about 15 miles in one go and I've got the bug for it."
He added: "I'm nervous because it's a huge challenge and I know it will be physically and mentally challenging, but I'm looking forward to it."
The challenge is due to take place on August 8 to August 11 and to donate money go to http:// www.justgiving.com/ 2meninaK2.
