No excuses for being bored this summer

Now the summer holidays are well and truly here, the National Trust has got some great ideas for things to do.

The West Country is full of fabulous places to visit from beautiful coastlines to rugged moorland, woods and meadows, gardens and parkland and lots more besides.

And these are not just places to visit, there's lots to do too. This summer, the trust is running a "50 things to do in 50 days" festival as part of its "50 things to do before you're 11¾" campaign. Each day there's a new activity to try in the great outdoors.

Tyntesfield, near Bristol, is full of natural materials to create wild outdoor collages and sculptures: beyond the gardens, the parkland is waiting for you to explore, so get creative or join one of our family activities.

Dunster Castle, near Minehead, is the perfect place to try your hand at Pooh Sticks, the game made famous by Winnie the Pooh: the little bridges over the River Avill are just right for watching your sticks float by.

Making a daisy chain is a simple pleasure. Glastonbury could be the ideal place – hunt out a patch of daisies on the side of the Tor and create some wild jewellery.

Jumping over waves is something you can do on any beach, but did you know that the National Trust looks after some of the most fantastic coastline in the West? Brean Down is a fascinating place to explore and afterwards you can relax on the beach.

And there are lots of events with plenty for families, and much more besides. You can find out all about "50 things in 50 days" at the National Trust's blog NTSouthWest.co.uk, and details of all the trust's events in the region are online too: visit nationaltrust.org.uk/visit for details.
