Garden Opera Company's Carmen hits the right notes for homeless

Hundreds of people enjoyed watching an opera in the sun while supporting a Bath homelessness charity.

Picnic and champagne were consumed on the lawns of Prior Park College as people watched the London-based Garden Opera Company's performance of Carmen. The event raised more than £7,000 for Julian House, to help fund its work with homeless people in the city.

Almost 500 people watched the opera, which is set in America in the 1920s.

Julian House organiser Cathy Adcock said: "Not only was The Garden Opera Company's passionate performance of Carmen a joy for opera enthusiasts, it was also a delightful revelation for those who watched and enjoyed an opera for the first time."

The event was sponsored by law firm Mowbray Woodwards.

Mrs Adcock added: "The beautiful weather was the icing on the cake and we are delighted so many people enjoyed the whole evening, in fact many have already been asking for details of the next one."
