As the local Conservative representative in Kingsmead ward, I have started speaking with residents in the area and listening to matters of local concern. One issue has immediately stood out – the crossroads at the Marlborough Buildings and Crescent Lane intersection.
After discussing the matter with Conservative colleagues it is apparent that this junction is also a matter of considerable concern to many residents in the wider community.
In the knowledge that discussions have been ongoing for some time there now needs to be a commitment from the council to actually take some action on this issue. The lack of clear sight lines both for vehicles exiting Marlborough Buildings and those driving eastwards on Weston Road make this junction potentially quite dangerous. Drawings of a redesigned, safer junction have been completed and it is now time to urge the council to turn these drawings into reality.
This will be an excellent opportunity for B&NES to spend taxpayers' money on a project which enhances public safety and in a place where it is really needed. It really is time the council listened to what people are urging them to spend their local taxes on, rather than wasting precious time and money on ideologically-driven, piecemeal traffic schemes.
I will do all I can to see that it is brought to completion.
