A small Wiltshire pub is preparing for the biggest event in its history after securing two of Britain's most famous alternative comedians to headline its first comedy festival.
The Three Crowns in Chippenham is hosting the town's first comedy festival, and has secured household names Richard Herring and Mark Thomas as top billing among 30 acts over three days and nights from tomorrow.
Landlord Steve Jenner has bagged some of the acts, but the festival is organised by Chippenham's own stand-up comedian and Edinburgh Festival favourite Wil Hodgson. Wil is a regular in the Three Crowns, which has transformed its fortunes since Mr Jenner took over, winning this year's CAMRA local pub of the year competition.
Tickets for the headline acts have sold out, with audiences expected to pack into the pub to see Herring and Thomas. Richard Herring was one of TV comedy's big names in the 1990s as part of a double act with Stuart Lee. Mark Thomas is a spiky, political comedian and author who regularly appears on TV, often fronting his own documentaries.
