Sensational live Swan Lake cinema screening comes to Bath's Odeon

One of the most famous ballets of all time, Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake will be beamed live into Bath's Odeon on James St West tonight along with more than 1,100 cinema screens around the world.

It will be the first time ballet has been broadcast live in 3D and marks 275 years of Russian Ballet.

It will be filmed live at the Mariinksy Theatre in St Petersburg, Russia, by the Oscar-winning team behind big screen blockbusters such as Avatar and Life of Pi.

Swan Lake tells a love story between Odette, a princess under a curse that turns her into a swan by day, and Prince Siegfried.

They meet as Prince Siegfried is out hunting at night and Odette transforms from a swan into a beautiful woman before his eyes.

Some of the finest dancers in the world will bring Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov's choreography to life.

Valery Gergiev, director of the Mariinsky Theatre, said: "Mariinsky Live 3D format is something totally new not only for us but also for the whole world. James Cameron is Mr 3D so we all know that if you team up with him something magical should happen".

Swan Lake will be taking place at 6.15pm tonight.
