Make the most of the summer

Fortunately in our local area we have an abundance of fantastic clubs and groups offering a range of activities to keep children entertained throughout the holidays.

There's something for every age and to satisfy every child's tastes, whether that's learning a new sport, taking up arts and craft, or just making new friends.

Below are some great local schools and organisations offering a range of activities in our local area.

Party Pirates

Party Pirates' Wild Camps are run on a philosophy of open and free play. Parents can drop their children off with qualified play workers for four hours of den building, rope swinging and hammock chilling, mad sports, fun crafts and big laughs; there's even face painting and treasure hunting!

Children are given the opportunity to choose what they want to get involved with and are encouraged to join in with fun activities but the priority is for everyone to have good, safe fun. Party Pirates operate an adult to child ratio of 1:12 and all play-workers are qualified plus there is a first aider with the children at all times. The camps are run during the school holidays throughout the year at St Saviours Infants School in Larkhall, Bath plus other venues will be confirmed soon. Ages 4 - 11 year olds are welcome and it's just £14 per session. For more information visit: www.partypirates.co.uk/holidaycamp.

CricketBath

CricketBath is the community outreach activity of Bath Cricket Club. Their initiative was launched in 2006 to increase delivery, participation and learning opportunities for children of school age in the local community. This includes partnerships with local schools (particularly state schools) and other cricket clubs.

This summer there is the opportunity to receive coaching from one of CricketBath's professional coaches, where each day there is a focus on specific cricketing disciplines. This allows players to pick and choose how best to spend their time in the hands of our experienced coaches who will help you take your game to the next level. Visit www.bathcricket.com for further details.

Lansdown Summer Camp

This summer also sees the inaugural Lansdown Summer Camp come to Old Sulians Rugby Club, which will be open to all children aged from 6-12 years.

The brain child of Ian Thomas and Dan Brown the aim of the camp is to educate children to make healthy lifestyle choices in an active and fun environment.

Ian states that the ever increasing problem of childhood obesity is one of his main motivations for the camp: "Both Dan and myself are passionate about the well-being of children.

"This camp aims to educate children about the importance of diet and exercise and the positive impact it can have on a child's health and attitude towards life."

The camp will run from July 22 to 25 and costs £22/day or £80 for the full four day course.

Discounts available for siblings and 'bring a friend'.

Wild Time in the Woods

Nestled away in 80 acres of beautiful woodland just outside Bath, Hidden Woods offers children a fantastic opportunity to connect with nature in a fun and adventurous way this summer.

Run by experienced Forest School and outdoor leaders, their woodland summer camps include a range of great activities, like bush craft, camp fire cooking and environmental arts and crafts – with plenty of time for free play too! Group sizes are kept small to ensure a friendly and intimate atmosphere.

The woods themselves are packed with some really 'wow' features too – some natural, some man-made. From stream play areas to established camps with rope swings and sheltered fire pits, the aim has been to create a place that will capture the imagination and create a sense of wonder. Each day starts at 10am and ends at 4pm, with early drop-off and late pick-up options available.

There's no minimum commitment either, you can join in the fun for a single day, a whole week or more! For further information on these summer camps, as well as their magical family bush craft weekends and birthday parties visit www.hiddenwoods.co.uk.
