After his girlfriend bravely battled six brain haemorrhages and brain surgery, Jamie Bradbury thought it was time to make her feel special.
And that's exactly what he did, getting down on one knee on the stage of a West End theatre to propose.
He popped the question to student Amy McKenzie under the chandelier of a Phantom of the Opera production.
The couple, who live in Twerton and have been together two years, were then invited back stage to share champagne with the cast, before watching the show.
Amy, 21, has arteriovenous malformation, when a tangle of blood vessels in the brain bypasses normal brain tissue and directly diverts blood from the arteries to the veins.
This has caused her to have six brain haemorrhages, and in January she underwent major brain surgery.
Jamie, 28, who works at Bath Spa University as a placements administrator, said: "Amy has been through so much and I wanted to treat her, and make her feel special. It has been really tough on her, as the condition means she gets bad migraines. She has always got on with it though, and carried on with her studies."
He arranged for Amy to have her nails done, before visiting the Shard skyscraper and going to a restaurant, and then on to Her Majesty's Theatre.
The couple, who met while studying at Bath Spa, are now saving up, and are planning to get married in 2015.
