A drunken attack on a father and son has led to an 18-week suspended prison sentence for a 27-year-old man from Bath.
Bath Magistrates described the attack on parish councillor Geoff Fuller and his son Robert in the early hours of November 16 as a "nasty assault".
As well as the jail sentence, Jordan Maggs, of Rosewell Court, in the city centre, was handed a supervision order with an alcohol treatment requirement and has been ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work and pay £150 compensation to both victims.
Maggs, who was living in Radstock at the time, admitted two charges of assault by beating.
The court was told that Maggs had drunkenly weighed into an argument that had been nothing to do with him.
Prosecutor, Jeremy Oliver, said that Robert Fuller had been walking his dog near his home in Westfield when he became concerned about two men he thought were acting suspiciously and were talking about drugs, and rang police.
They punched Robert Fuller twice, knocking him to the ground.
When his father, Westfield Parish Council chairman Geoff was called, he was also punched in the face.
Defending, Celia Strathdee, said that Maggs had been asked to leave the address he had lived at in Radstock because of the incident and felt ashamed of what he had done and that he had let everyone down.
"It was carnival and he had been drinking and he had weighed into an argument that was nothing to do with him."
