Bath Cricket Club's North Parade ground will today play host to the opening matches in a new scheme designed to encourage more girls to play the sport.
Primary and secondary schools across the region are being invited to take part in the programme, which Bath and sponsors Kingswood School hope will help unearth the next Anya Shrubsole.
Matches are scheduled between 4pm and 6pm each Friday throughout the summer term and players are invited to join the Bath CC girls' training session afterwards.
Bath cricket director Ian Shrubsole said "This is another chance for girls to get involved in the game and we are hugely grateful to Kingswood School for their support.
"There is already a great deal of cricket within schools delivered by our community arm, CricketBath, and this seems like another step towards joining that work with actually playing matches and a longer-lasting involvement in the game."
Many Fridays are already busy but there is scope for more schools to get involved. Contact Ian Shrubsole on ishrub@sky.com or 01225 425935 for more information.
