A charity week organised by the Bath School of Swimming has raised more than £3,000.

Some 40 of its older swimmers swam in a charity gala held at the Kingswood School pool while 60 of its younger members took part in a sponsored swim during one of their lessons, either at Prior Park College or St Martin's Garden Primary School.

The money will be split equally between Children's Hospice South West and a swimming charity in Sri Lanka, the Sri Lanka Women's Swimming Project.

The 40 children who took part in the charity gala swam two events each.

School owner Suzy Granger said: "It was a really special day – the spectators' gallery was packed with parents, grandparents and supporters and the atmosphere was electric. At the end of every race there was spontaneous applause for the children. The support given to them by the spectators was truly uplifting. "
