Forty-year milestone celebrated

A political couple have celebrated a total of 40 years in local government.

An event was held to mark the joint milestone for Bath and North East Somerset councillors Tim Ball (Lib Dem, Twerton) and his wife Sharon, who represents Westmoreland.

They were joined by MP Don Foster, councillors, friends and residents.

Mr Ball, who was first elected to Bath City Council in 1991 and is B&NES cabinet member for housing and planning, said: "I have met lots of different people over the years and am pleased to be able to help them in any way I can."

Mrs Ball was elected in 1995 and says she has seen a lot of changes in her ward in that time including the removal of the gas towers and the development of Bath Western Riverside.

She said: "I have made a lot of friends throughout the Westmoreland ward and am happy to be able to help any resident."

Mr Foster presented the couple, who have both been mayors, with a book about the city.
