Animal lovers have been finding out more about their feathered and furry friends during an event at a Bath pet shop. Not Just Pets, in St James's Parade, opened its doors for a family fun day, where people could get advice on different types of animals, handle some more unusual pets such as snakes and chameleons, while at the same time raising money for the Bath Cats and Dogs Home. Shop owner Janine Tozer said the idea was to answer any questions people may have and educate them about the realities of pet ownership. She said: "It is national pet month at the moment, which is all about promoting responsible pet ownership and that pets are companions for life. "We are talking with customers about their companion pets and how to look after them. We have had people coming in with specific questions about the pets they already own, as well as those who are thinking about getting one and want to know more about it." She added: "One of the reasons we have the animals here in the pet shop is because it is an opportunity to educate people, particularly children, and let them handle the pets before they think about getting one." Carol Moran, from Bathampton, had taken her three granddaughters Alyssa, ten, Brooke, eight, and Drew, four, to the event because they all loved animals. She said: "My husband saw it on the website last night and I thought it would be something they would enjoy. "They have had the chance to actually handle the animals and ask questions about them, which is all good." The girls already have a hamster at home, but after seeing some of the pets at the shop were keen to get a guinea pig.
