No Bath Rugby players were named in the British & Irish Lions squad to tour Australia this summer when it was announced this morning.
Props Paul James and Davey Wilson were seen as the club's best bets for selection by head coach Warren Gatland, having been the only Bath players involved in this year's Six Nations, with Wales and England respectively.
James will instead have to focus his attentions on Wales' Test match in Japan in June, while Wilson will hope to be involved in England's two-match tour of Argentina the same month.
"We spent a long time selecting this squad and there were some close calls with a lot of competition for places but ultimately we chose the players who will give us the best chance of a Test series victory," said head coach Gatland.
"A Lions Tour to Australia only comes around once every 12 years and we believe we have the right balance in the squad to be successful.
"We have a tremendous challenge in front of us but I know the players will be dedicated to the adventure and task ahead."
Saracens' former Bath prop Matt Stevens, who quit the club after failing a drugs test in 2009, has been named in the Lions' 37-man squad for the three Test series Down Under.
Wales flanker Sam Warburton was named as captain for the tour, which starts with a match against the Barbarians in Hong Kong on Saturday, June 1.
