Large parts of Bath suffered a short power cut at around 6.50am this morning, setting off alarms across the city centre.
The power went off for up to three minutes in some places, although in the city centre, it was restored after around 20 seconds.
In all, 40,000 homes were affected.
Western Power Distribution said it was still investigating the cause of the power cut this morning.
It put its helicopter up to assess the condition of overhead lines.
