Pete McCormack provides a fan's view on events at Bath City Football Club...
A six-game unbeaten run against the league's better sides has virtually secured Bath City's place in Blue Square South for next season.
The latest win, at high-flying Chelmsford, surprised many of us but is proof we have the basis of a successful side.
For many supporters, it is no coincidence that this late run of form has come with the return of Jim Rollo to the City fold – albeit from the sidelines.
Charlie Griffin was again the hero at Chelmsford and he is a big hit with the local schoolchildren he meets when working for the Bath City Community Sports Foundation.
Speaking of which, many supporters were dismayed that the club chose to go to the Bath Chronicle yet again – just a few weeks after the 'Move or Die' front-page headlines – with a negative story about the Foundation's funding.
At a time when Bath City needs positive promotion, these kinds of headlines are damaging. The Foundation is widely regarded as a huge success, having provided football-based activities for scores of young people in Bath.
It has also raised the profile of the club, bringing many new fans and their parents to watch games, and employed three players to undertake the work. This has helped City's playing budget to the tune of at least £8,000 this year.
We really do need more of a 'working together' attitude at the club or the decline of the last two years will be hard to arrest.
In writing this Fan's View, I do my best to pick up on the pulse of all things Bath City. Certainly I rely on the Chronicle in all its forms, my own chats with people at games and the world of social media to inform what I write.
I would welcome direct views from anyone with an interest in Bath City FC so please feel free to email me directly on pmccormac@aol.com.
City's woeful season in knockout competitions continued with a very disappointing Somerset Premier Cup semi-final defeat at Paulton on Tuesday.
Despite the relatively strong City line-up, they were well beaten by a competitive lower-league side. No silverware this season, then, when many City fans had hoped we could celebrate something.
At least we have a chance to end the league season on a high and will be looking to extend our fine run of form against a good Eastleigh side on Saturday.
There is added spice given the Eastleigh manager's ill-judged comments about current City players circulating their availability for next season!
