Scrum-half Peter Stringer has signed an extension to his contract at Bath Rugby that will keep him at The Rec next season, the club have confirmed today.
The 98-cap Ireland international was originally brought in from Munster as injury cover for Michael Claassens but has since gone on to make the number nine shirt his own.
Since scoring two tries on debut as a replacement in the LV= Cup pool win over Exeter Chiefs in late January, the 35-year-old has started the subsequent nine games for Bath in all competitions.
"I still feel like I have a lot to give on the rugby field, and really wanted to keep on playing, so was happy to agree a new contract here," said Stringer.
"I've really enjoyed my time with Bath so far, and am looking forward to next season already."
Bath head coach Gary Gold, who brought in Stringer on a similar loan deal to former club Newcastle last season, said he was delighted to retain the scrum-half's services.
"Strings has been fantastic for us in the short time he has been here so far, so we're really pleased he's agreed to stay here for next season rather than going back to Ireland," said Gold.
"He is the consummate professional in everything he does, both on and off the field, and that sets a great example for the entire squad."
